Exploring the Lunar Society and their connections to slavery during the eighteenth century.
This tour starts at Soho House Museum, which was once the home of Mathew Boulton, a revolutionary member of the Lunar Society and founder of the Soho Factory. Matthew Boulton’s most successful business was selling steam engines. These engines were sold to support the slave trade, but not until after 1800 when Boulton and Watt had retired from the business and their son’s had taken over.

This virtual walk showcases Black heritage of Handsworth.
Black Heritage Walks Network has researched and created a series of black heritage trails across the West Midlands, aimed at documenting the migration stories and achievements of the black community, in particular, the post-war African Caribbean community. Handsworth is historically rich with an African Caribbean presence, preceding post-war migration.
The Covid Pandemic highlighted many health inequalities that make Black and minority ethnic communities at a higher risk of serious or death due to Covid 19.
We offer help and support with concerns about health and well being and Covid vaccine hesitancy

A joint partnership with Black Heritage Walks Network, China Plate Theatre & Overhear In honour of all of those who have chosen the Soho Road and Handsworth, Birmingham, as their home,
Calling all Handsworth Residents and those with Handsworth Histories. We are a creating a story and memory sharing space with ChinanPlate Theatre at Handsworth Library.
The event starts with a walk around the area and then coffee, cake and a catch up. Interested to get involved? You can join Black Heritagewalks Network and Over Hear on Tuesday 3rd May (2-5pm) for a mini memory walk and workshop.

A fascinating heritage education project documenting the history of reggae and its links to UK culture and the West Midlands.
This education programme was developed in partnership with Simmer Down Arts and /legendary reggae artist Basil Gabbidon from Steel Pulse - as Birmingham based reggae band.
This walk feature activist, writer and journalist Olaudah Equiano and his association with the Lunar Society in Soho, Handsworth. Equiano, a former slave, published a memoir of his life and the terrible, unjustifiable things that happened while enslaved - “The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavas Cassa, the African”.
