Handsworth

From Windrush to BLM, From WWII to EU Migrants

Submitted by Dawn on

During Black History Month 2020, Black Heritage Walks Network joined Centrala  to bring the Black and the Central and Eastern European communities together through talking about our histories and struggles and how we made the UK our homes.

The event,  From Windrush to BLM, From WWII Migrants to EU was held at Centrala space and streamed live on Facebook. It showcased the similarities between the settlement of both communities in the UK and the heritage. The event also featured local artists and food.

Spotlight on Kevin Duffy

Submitted by Dawn on

Black Heritage Walks Network remembers Kevin Duffy who was very close to the community in Handsworth. Kevin used Handsworth Library as a hub, to reach out to people no matter what their life story may be and in doing so he believed they would be entertained, informed and their lives enriched. He encouraged many activities involving people from all parts of our varied society here in the UK.
