Black Heritage Walks Network has joined a national initiative with individuals and organisations that have come together to form a collective to celebrate 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence.

 

The launch of Freedom 50 Outdoor Arts Exhibition took place on 22nd May at Birmingham REP and Library. The exhibition highlighted 50 years of Bangladesh using photos from Bangladesh and the UK.

 

Heritage organisation, Legacy WM joined with Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery (BMAG) who have secured 10 outdoor photo display units (https://standard8.com/projects/index-on-censorship-open-shutters ) outside Birmingham Rep and Library.

 

The photos and posters displayed have the following themes:

  • Politics & resistance
  • People of Bangladesh
  • Landscape
  • Environment
  • Future of Bangladesh – Bangladeshis in the UK

Including photos from Sheikh Mujib’s iconic speech from 7th March 1971 which galvanized a nation to fight for independence and marches in Birmingham and London’s Trafalgar Square
