Sistahood On Wheels in a community of Black Women who enjoy roller skating or blading and like to join a Sisterhood of like-minded women. The organisation was founded by Naomi aka ‘Nia Speaks’, a beginner skater who started roller skating in the streets and nearby parks in Ward End and Pype Hayes during the Covid 19 lockdown.

Black Heritage Walks Network have teamed up with the group to deliver a regular weekly ‘newbie’ skate practice at Georges Park, Wills St, Birmingham, B19 1PP. The session is every Saturday, 13:00hrs, whether you're a newbie or a seasoned skater, all abilities are welcome. The skate session is safe environment for women to skate, risk assessed and Covid 19 friendly. Nia’s vison is that ‘Sisterhood on Wheels’ is more than ‘just skating’, it aims to empower local black women and bring people together and create a space for unity.

The project has also included a consultation on renovation of the skate park with Bunny Bread from Create Not Destroy and Gallery 37 North Downlow project with Punch Records. Naomi and the group have also been featured in a documentary about female entrepreneurs in the West Midlands ‘SHE’, showcasing ambitious, creative & successful women and the barriers that they face, which will be premiered on 10th June 2021…“I’m deciding to live my life how I want to live it and choosing to truly be myself - this led to many positive achievements".

If you want to get involved in skating practice join the Sistahood on Wheels Facebook Group.
