Spotlight on Kevin Duffy

Black Heritage Walks Network remembers Kevin Duffy who was very close to the community in Handsworth. Kevin used Handsworth Library as a hub, to reach out to people no matter what their life story may be and in doing so he believed they would be entertained, informed and their lives enriched. He encouraged many activities involving people from all parts of our varied society here in the UK.

Kevin trained in fine art and then took a post graduate course in librarianship. He never lost his love for the cultural things in life and loved visiting museums, art galleries, going to the opera and always read the cultural section of the Sunday Times! Kevin believed passionately in service to the community – he felt it was his role to provide a variety of social activities that would appeal to the widest of tastes.

Black Heritage Walks Network works closely with the Kevin Duffy Foundation, a charity founded by Marie Duffy to support underprivileged children in Handsworth. We have delivered many heritage workshops and took part in the annual Roots Rock Reggae events, showcasing local and disseminating valuable information to the community.
