The Madiba Walk – A Recognition to Nelson Mandela

A migration trail of Black heritage in the UK, from 7500 BC through to post war migrant communities.Handsworth lies just outside Birmingham City Centre based in the northwest and became a settlement area for the African-Caribbean community just after WW2.Handsworth is rich in political, economic, sporting and educational Black pioneers such as 

  • Nelson Mandela
  • Mohammed Ali
  • Benjamin Zephaniah
  • and many more.

Handsworth paved the way for global musical legends, Sound Systems and the original Shebeens.

We celebrate the contributions and the success of the black community in Birmingham by highlighting key areas of influence in Handsworth, as well as a exploring a collection of maps and heritage archives.

Please join us on a historical, reminiscence tour of some of Birmingham historical and existing finest.
